Visitors Visa

Visitors Visa

Every year, Canada welcomes thousands of foreign nationals from various countries to have the wonderful Canada experience for either tourism, trade, or cultural interactions. Canada is safe yet also exciting, stable, and filled with wonderful adventure. Canadians are friendly, modern, welcoming, and open-minded.

Most people visiting Canada will need a Visitor’s visa (except you are coming from a visa-exempt country). A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that is placed in your passport showing that you meet the requirements needed to enter Canada. Most travellers need a visitor visa to travel to Canada. You may also need one if you are in transit through a Canadian airport.

Most visitors can stay for up to 6 months in Canada. At the port of entry, the border services officer may allow you to stay for less or more than 6 months. If this happens, they will put the date you need to leave in your passport. They might also give you a document, called a visitor record, which will show the date you need to leave by.

If you do not get a stamp in your passport, you can stay for 6 months from the day you entered Canada or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

Requirements to be issued a visitor’s visa may include proof that you:

have a valid and legitimate purpose in Canada

show that you have enough money to maintain yourself and your family members in Canada and to return home

have a letter of invitation and other documents to support your visa application

do not intend to work or study in Canada unless authorized to do so,

satisfy an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay

Prove criminal and medical admissibility to Canada
